seeking a board certified General Surgeon with post-residency training in trauma/critical care to be a member of the division of trauma/critical care surgery at health sciences center in
Louisiana. This full time trauma/critical care faculty position will be at an academic level commensurate with the candidate's experience and academic achievement. The medical center serves an urban and rural population of 2.5
million encompassing 25,000 square miles in Louisiana, east Texas and southwestern Arkansas. Emergency department has approximately 50,000 visits per year of which 10,600 are for trauma. There are 1,200 admissions to the trauma
service per year of which 74% are blunt injuries, 24% penetrating and 2% burns. The hospital has a 22 bed surgical intensive care unit with 1456 admissions per year. If desired there is an opportunity to do general surgery. The resources for basic
and clinical research in trauma/critical care here are outstanding. There are numerous opportunities for collaborative clinical and basic science research within and outside of the department of surgery. Within the medical school there
is a small animal PET scanner that provides the unique opportunity for in-vivo study of metabolic changes and gene expression. The biomedical research institute contains state-of-the-art research facilities organized according to
research interest with more than 6,000 square feet of wet lab space organized around tissue reperfusion injury and 6000 square feet dedicated to the immunology and physiology of acute inflammation. In addition to these labs,
there are staffed core facilities for cellular imaging, confocal microscopy, DNA array analysis, flow cytometry, fluorescent microscopy, laser capture microdissection, mass spectroscopy-proteomics and real-time PCR. This is not a visa opportunity. Please refer to
